Vladimir Tismaneanu is professor of government and politics at the University of Maryland, College Park. His most recent book is The Devil in History: Communism, Fascism, and Some Lessons of the Twentieth Century (2012).

Dorin Tudoran, a dissident writer exiled under the Ceauşescu regime, is the editor of Agora, a Romanian-language quarterly devoted to political and cultural topics that is published in the United States but circulates widely in Romania, and honorary editor of the East European Reporter.
