Robert A. Scalapino is Robson Research Professor of Government emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley. He serves on the boards of directors of the Asia Foundation, the Atlantic Council, and the Pacific Forum of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Among his many publications is The Last Leninists: The Uncertain Future of Asia’s Communist States (1992).
