About the Author
Josef Silverstein is professor emeritus of political science at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. His publications include The Political Legacy of Aung San (rev. ed., 1993), a volume that he edited and to which he contributed. His essay “The Idea of Freedom in Burma and the Political Thought of Aung San Suu Kyi” appeared in the Summer 1996 issue of Pacific Affairs.
