About the Author

Carlos H. Waisman, who was born and raised in Argentina, is professor of sociology at the University of California at San Diego. He is the author of Modernization and the Working Class: The Politics of Legitimacy (1982) and Reversal of Development in Argentina: Postwar Counterrevolutionary Policies and Their Structural Consequences (1987), as well as numerous articles on politics, social structure, and development.
