How People View Democracy

Latin America's Struggle for Democracy

The State of India's Democracy

Assessing the Quality of Democracy

Selected essays originally published in the Journal of Democracy have been collected into a series of books and published by The Johns Hopkins University Press. Journal of Democracy books and articles have been used widely in university courses on political science, international affairs, and sociology, and have earned accolades from experts in the field.

Books in the Journal books series bring together essays concerning particular topics on democracy or the democratic experiences of different regions in the world. Examples of topics covered in the series include democracy's relation to religion, free markets, political parties, and globalization.

Two new volumes in the Journal book series will appear in 2008—one addressing democracy in Latin America and the other examining public opinion on democracy outside the West.
